Stay Grounded and Stay Growing
By Kyle Patrick Smith, CEO of HRKyle Services
In today’s fast-changing work world, it’s easy for leaders and employees alike to lose their footing. New technologies, shifting priorities, and constant uncertainty can leave even the best teams feeling stretched thin. That’s why one of the most important things any organization can do right now is simple — stay grounded and stay growing.
To stay grounded means remembering who you are, what matters most, and what kind of workplace you want to be part of.
For organizations, staying grounded means staying true to who you are and what you represent to your clients and potential clients. What are you known for? What values show up in how you lead, how you communicate, and how you deliver?
You have to have that consistency — internally and externally — to be successful. It’s what builds trust, reinforces your reputation, and strengthens your culture. And when things get rocky, that consistency gives you something solid to come back to — a foundation that reminds you who you are and why you do what you do.
It also makes it clear to potential hires what they’re joining — and it reaffirms to your current employees why they joined in the first place. When people can see and feel that alignment, they don’t just work for your organization; they believe in it.
I talk about these concepts in both of my books — Get the Job You Love (from the job seeker’s perspective) and Recruiting Is Easy (from a talent acquisition standpoint). On the individual side, your values, purpose, and professional presence make up your personal brand. On the organizational side, those same principles form your employment brand — the reason candidates consider working for you in the first place.
I encourage job seekers to evaluate these qualities when they begin their career search because the best professional matches happen when values align on both sides. When a company stays grounded, it creates stability for everyone who’s part of it — and it naturally attracts the right people to join.
To stay growing, though, means never settling. It’s about making the choice — as a person and as a leader — to keep learning, adapting, and supporting others as they do the same.
When growth is executed correctly, it becomes the foundation of resilience. Growth keeps you ahead of the curve — aware of both external trends and internal dynamics — so you’re ready to respond instead of react. It builds confidence at every level of the organization because people know they have the skills, awareness, and adaptability to face whatever comes next.
Resilient teams aren’t the ones that avoid challenges; they’re the ones prepared to meet them. They can absorb change, recover quickly, and even improve because they’re grounded in learning and forward momentum. That’s the real power of growth — it doesn’t just prepare you for the future, it gives you the strength and clarity to shape it.
And that brings us to one of the most important conversations every company needs to be having: supporting employee mental health.
This isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s a smart business strategy. The data is clear: organizations that prioritize mental health see higher engagement, better retention, fewer safety incidents, and stronger overall performance. It’s not about being “soft.” It’s about being sustainable.
Supporting mental health means creating spaces where people feel safe to speak up, ask for help, and be human. It means ensuring workloads are realistic, expectations are clear, and leaders are trained to recognize when someone might be struggling. It also means modeling balance — showing that it’s okay to take a break, step away, and return stronger.
When we combine grounding with growth, we create workplaces that people want to be part of — not just because they pay well or look good on a résumé, but because they feel good to be in. And that’s what today’s workforce is truly seeking: meaning, respect, and belonging.
